Have
you been thinking about going on an
international mission trip?
Well, here’s your opportunity! Northside
will be taking a Volunteers in Mission
team to Leon, Nicaragua January 23 – 31,
2009. That may seem like such a long
time from now, but because of airlines
and other necessary planning and
preparation for this type of
international mission experience, it is
critical to plan this far in advance. This
team will be involved in several types
of ministry while in Nicaragua,
including medical clinics, Vacation
Bible Schools, feeding programs,
spending time with the children in the
orphanage, and construction. Team
members will be involved in the ministry
areas they feel called to participate
in. The total cost will be no more than
$1,200 per person.
We have 28
airline tickets reserved and a deposit
of $200 will reserve one of these spaces
on the team. Deposits should be made out
to Northside UMC and given to Daphne
Moses in the church office. Questions?
Contact Daphne at 668-0617 or

Gusta
Java – Coffee from Nicaragua
Two couples
from Jackson, Tennessee, who traveled to
Nicaragua with El Ayudante have
purchased a coffee plantation in Gusta
Java in Nicaragua. Their mission is to
bring people the world’s finest tasting
specialty coffee and directly improve
the lives of the people of Nicaragua.
They are roasting the coffee from their
plantation, as well as coffee from other
countries, right here in Jackson. For
every bag of coffee (cost of $10) that
is purchased from Northside UMC,
members, or friends, Gusta Java will
donate back to the church $4. This money
will be used to purchase supplies used
by the mission teams from Northside who
minister in Nicaragua. Also, Gusta Java
will donate a percentage of the
Nicaraguan coffee that is sold directly
to El Ayudante.
Coffee may
be ordered 2 ways:
On Gusta
Java’s web site,
www.gustajava.com .
Select the coffee you want (the cost is
$10, although it says $12 on the web
site) and enter your name and other
information as asked. Payment is made
with your debit or credit card. Put in
this coupon code for Northside to get
credit for the sale: EA005 . Select
“Delivery” on the shipping option. The
cost will be recalculated to $10 per bag
after the coupon code is entered. Tax
will be added, but no shipping cost.
The second way is to call Kary at Gusta
Java: 265-2060. She will take your
order, and you may pay by check or
credit/debit card. Make sure you tell
her EA005 coupon code or tell her you
are with Northside UMC.
Coffee ordered each week by Wednesday
night through Gusta Java will be
delivered to Northside each Friday by
noon. Your purchase will have your name
on it and will be available to pick up
in the narthex on Sunday morning.
None of this coffee is available for
sale at Northside. In order for
Northside to get credit for this sale,
the purchase must be made in one of the
two ways explained above.
See
www.gustajava.com for more information
about Gusta Java, and
www.nicamissions.com for more
information about El Ayudante.

September 2010
Prior
to January 12, 2010, when the
catastrophic 7.0 earthquake hit the
small country of Haiti, 80% of the
Haitian population lived in poverty.
And since the earthquake, this
number has only increased. People
who were already struggling to
survive, took a terrible blow that
day by losing any possessions they
might have acquired, in addition to
the tremendous loss of family
members and loved ones. Since the
earthquake, the overwhelming
majority of the population is living
in tents provided by numerous relief
agencies and churches. These tents
are positioned all over the
overcrowded cities and even occupy
the medians that run down the middle
of the busy main roads. Obviously,
help in any form, is desperately
needed!
In
January 2011, Northside will be
taking a mission team to Haiti to
help with recovery efforts and we
are in need of help in gathering
supplies. While in Haiti, we will be
partnering with UMCOR (United
Methodist Committee of Relief) to
help rebuild schools in the area. In
addition, we will be offering
feeding programs and working with
children and adults in every area we
visit to show God's love and to be a
reminder that these precious people
have not been forgotten and that
they do matter in the body of
Christ. Our goal is to
take school supplies and health kit
items everywhere we go. These simple
health kits provide our Haitian
brothers and sisters the ability to
care for themselves in the most
basic of ways. Can we even imagine
not having the means to brush our
teeth or wash our face or the face
of our child? Thankfully, that is
something that the overwhelming
majority of us will never have to
consider. We need your help!
Please
collect the items listed below and
drop them in the Mission Box in the
Narthex any time during the month of
September. We have been given much!
Please prayerfully consider what you
and your family can do to help.
Thanks, in advance, for your
donations!
