Family, school, work, and ministry have definitely changed through this unprecedented and unpredictable time. We miss the predictability. We miss the structure.  And we miss each other!  But we are determined to continue ministering to all of the kids and families at Northside.  Spiritual education and growth doesn’t have to stop and we’ve made sure it won’t!  Connecting to God and our faith during this time is crucial. We are offering various opportunities during the week for you and your family to be a part of the Children’s Ministry at Northside.  They are new and different, but here’s what you can expect.

Sundays at the Intersection

These videos will connect kids and families to:

  • Northside’s Children’s Ministry Director, Kristy Richardson
  • Object lessons that help kids understand God’s word in tangible ways.
  • Important scriptural truths and Biblical people

Wacky Wednesdays

  • Introduction and silly stories from the staff at Northside Church
  • Biblical stories
  • Opportunities to connect God’s word with our everyday lives

Sunday Night Live

Relationships are crucial in faith. We understand that virtual lessons and spiritual education are only part of our faith journey. Some of the best examples of God’s love are how we show love to each other. Compassion is tangible. Relationships help us experience God in a real way. With that in mind, we have created opportunities for Northside kids to connect with their Sunday School Teachers! Each Sunday evening, classes will meet over “Zoom,” a virtual meeting space. All you need is a smart phone or computer to be a part of this! We take 5-15 minutes and connect with each other, pray for each other, and have some fun conversations about the weird and wonderful things happening in our lives!

The Intersection: Where Faith, Family, and Fun Meet!

The children’s program at Northside (The Intersection) aims to get kids involved in having fun worshiping God. From drama to puppet shows to service projects — children at Northside get to explore the various ways that we can serve others through our own individual talents. We also have activities where families can share quality family time in a Christian atmosphere — from hunting eggs to Family Advent Night and weekend retreats.

The Mission Statement of The Intersection: Growing in God’s Love, Learning His Truth, and Sharing His Love with Others.

GROW: To create a healthy, spiritual atmosphere that allows each child to grow in their relationship with Jesus and with each other.
LEARN: To train each child in the knowledge of the Word, help them discover their own uniqueness, and equip them and their parents to live faithfully in an ever-changing world.
SHARE: To prepare each child to share the love of Christ with their family, friends, neighbors, community, and the world through their attitudes, actions, and words

Special Events

Easter Egg Hunt
Children fifth grade and younger are invited to an Easter Egg Hunt on the church grounds on the Saturday before Easter. Following the hunt, special activities such as puppet shows, games, crafts, and photo opportunities can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Vacation Bible School
Children from three years old through graduated fifth graders are invited to participate during this exciting and energetic week from 9:00 AM to noon each day. Children will enjoy skits, crafts, storytelling, music, games and snacks. The week ends with a presentation at our Sunday Worship services. Many youth and adults help make this the most fun week of summer vacation!

Our goal is to connect children and families with opportunities to serve and support people who are in need. Some of the local, national, and international groups we team up with include Operation Christmas Child, Turn on the Tap, Nothin’ But Nets, Women of Hope, The Dream Center, Hands Up!, UMCOR: Sager Brown, and the Angel House Orphanage in Tanzania.

Lakeshore Assembly
Third through fifth graders attend a weekend retreat at Lakeshore at the end of the summer. Whether they’re rocking out to great worship tunes, playing crazy games, swimming in the water park, creating team covenants, or sharing and discussing in small groups, the kids are learning about God’s love for them.

Northside’s fall festival is a time of family fun and community outreach. Highlights of this event include costumes, candy, great food, trunk or treating, inflatables, and games for all ages. This is one of the major family events of the year.

Children’s Christmas Musical
Each Christmas our preschool through fifth graders participate in a special musical about the message of Christmas. While the musical is different each year, the message is the same: God’s love and care for us is apparent through the birth of his son, Jesus.

Family Advent Night
The whole family is invited to this special night where we celebrate families and the beginning of Advent. We eat dinner together, sing Christmas carols, play games, make crafts, and learn about Advent,

Themed Events
We offer a variety of special events for kids throughout the year, such as the N.B.A. Weekend (No Boys Allowed), 3G Lock-In (Games, Guys, and Grub), Maplewood Flower Power Project, Christmas Caroling Celebration, ABC Adventures for Preschool, Parablelooza, and Summer Send-Off Party.

Bibles for Third Graders and Preschoolers
Each fall, it is our tradition that each third grader receives a new Bible with his or her name imprinted on it. Preschoolers also receive a colorful, age-appropriate Bible to introduce them to God’s Word.

These bags are provided for younger children who appreciate having something designed especially for them in worship.
